The road to bigger things

OK, I love time trials - not when you are on the road doing them.....but the actual race and the results (being your own race and not whether you got on the right break, the right move, got dropped ont he hill, blah blah blah).......SO I noticed that there is an Elite time trial - The Victorian time trial champs on August 14th at Geelong which is a 28km time trial and so yesterday I changed my licence from a masters licence to an elite licence so I could ride it......I dont have high expectations, just want to do it.......With and wlite licence you can ride masters or elite....Elite sounds kind of "up there" and I can assure you that I am not there.......

I have tried to get a profile of the course, I think it is undulating so after my effort on a windy undulating course last Sunday at just under 37kph, I dont have high expectations at all.....lol

Anyway I have got about 17 days to prepare for the ITT, yesterday was 5 x 1 minute intervals at max effort which I must admit I did about 30 seconds well and then watched my speedo gradually dropping as my legs died......today is 2hours of just riding on the flat, trying to stay around 75% of max HR, yesterday was two hours in undulating countryside so will see how I go today.......I must admit I am a bit excited to enter a big event.

Good luck on your TT. I'm sure you'll do great. It's great to have a specific event or race to train for. it helps to keep you focused.

Thank......I just entered and on the entry list is Kathy Watt (as in the olympic champion...)...lol..it will be an experience I have raced in a race with her before and she is really nice (in talking to her after the event.......) Before an event I m not very nice - nerves...

Hey Buttsy,
I've entered the Vic TT Champs as well - but for me its mainly for racing experience, as there aren't many TT's other than BBN's Kew Blvd and 1-in-20.
I'm not worrying about the big names on the entry list at all, as I'll be wrapt if my average speed is over 30 km/hr.
http://www.vic.cycling.org.au/?Page=33649 has more information now - stupid start (Gnarwarre) and finish (Barrabool cricket club) are in totally different spots :-(

Hey Penny, thanks for reading the blog.....I am excited to enter this event as it is full on. Are you going to the event with other people as it can be a bit daunting. You will have to get your bike checked to make sure it is legal and they check your helmet for the Australia Standards sticker, it is exciting. I have only ever ridden masters nationals and stuff and this is my first real "elite" event. and the best part, we will learn so much from it. Do you use bars? They make a huge difference and will definitely make you faster but you need to practice practice practice with them first.

Good luck and I will see you there!

Good luck, Buttsy. I've got the feeling you will be right up there ... LOL

I wish I could say the same ... that I like time trials ... but I just don't. It's probably because I suck at time trials. I've got quite a few coming up, too - Club and State ITT and - yeah - State Team Time Trial. I've never ridden a team time trial in my life so I'm apprehensive ... to say the least!
